Wednesday 11th March is No Smoking Day.
Organised by the British Heart Foundation, the day aims to promote advice and services available to help people quit the habit.
West Sussex County Council is reminding people of the benefits of not smoking; not just health related but financial.
They estimate the average smoker would save more than £150 a month and almost £2,000 a year.
Over the last three years in West Sussex 12 people have lost their lives in accidental house fires; seven of those were as a result of smoking.
