A police officer’s recovering in hospital after being injured while trying to arrest a suspect in Crawley on Wednesday evening (29 April)
Just before 8.15pm the uniformed officer stopped a blue Toyota Corolla car in the Ifield Drive area of Crawley.
Both the driver and his passenger ran off on foot. The officer pursued the driver into a block of flats where he tried to arrest him, but suffered a head injury.
Other officers were quickly on the scene and a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and failing to stop for police.
The injured officer was taken by ambulance to the East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, where he is now recovering..
A widespread search including the police helicopter and dogs was mounted for the passenger who ran off and he is still being sought.
