More Social Workers For Surrey

Surrey County Council are to recruit more social workers to improve children’s services rated “inadequate” by Ofsted following an inspection late last year.

The council’s published an improvement plan after the watchdog highlighted “widespread and serious failures” in its children’s services.

As well as more social workers, the report recommends improved training for staff.

A group’s been set up to ensure the actions identified in the improvement plan are implemented.

Councillor Hazel Watson, leader of the Liberal Democrats on the council welcomed the publication of the report and said it was the first step on the road to recovery.
