Sussex Police are urging residents to be on their guard after a fraudulent phone call was made to an address in Crawley.
The victim in Fernhurst Close answered a call from a man who introduced himself as ‘Martin’. He called at 10.30 last Monday morning (12 October) claiming to be from the victim’s bank saying he needed the bank card as there had been a number of recent card thefts.
The victim was invited to call the bank for verification however the man did not hang up. The victim, therefore, was informed ‘Martin’ was a legitimate employee and that they would also need the PIN before they could send a courier.
While the victim was on the phone a man arrived at the door claiming to be the courier. He took the bank card and left in the direction of Findon Road.
He is described as a white man, tall, slim with a ginger beard.
Luckily for the victim a relative was also in the house and overheard the conversation. He cancelled the card and phoned the police.
