Surrey Police has launched a county-wide advertising campaign, asking the public to think twice before they call and ask “is it a policing matter?”
The campaign hopes to clarify whether a call is a policing matter and what is better serviced by other organisations.
Last year Surrey Police dealt with over 10,000 requests that should have been directed to a more appropriate agency.
If it is a matter for police, residents are asked to consider whether to call 999 for an emergency or serious crime, and if not to dial 101.
