As you’ve probably heard on Susy Radio’s travel news, Surrey County Council has extended the completion date of the drainage improvement work on the A22, to 28th February, weather permitting.
Reconstruction and drainage improvement works on the Southbound carriageway between the M25 and the A25 Oxted Road, started on 4th January and were initially due to last for six weeks. The Council says that when the carriageway was constructed previously, parts of the concrete were not reinforced and were laid on top of a deep base made up of clay and quarried sand. This has caused the concrete to crack and deteriorate to a fine powder.
Now an additional deep reconstruction of the road base is required, which has resulted in the extended completion date.
