An elderly motorist who drove for six miles in the wrong direction on the M23 has been sentenced. 79 year old Keith Taylor from King’s Lynn in Norfolk pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years. He was also disqualified from driving for two years and must take an extended driving test before reapplying for his licence.

The incident occurred in January when Mr Taylor pulled onto the hard shoulder on the M23, before making a U turn. Despite oncoming headlights and evasive action taken by other motorists, the driver’s Volkswagen Polo continued in the wrong direction until police caught up with him near Maidenbower.
