Southern Rail hits out at claims it’s ‘hoarding’ profits

Southern Rail has said it “made a loss last year and is not expected to make any profit this year either”.

The operator hit out at claims by the RMT it’s hoarding profits while passengers face disruptions.

The union have asked Transport Secretary Chris Grayling to intervene to deal with the “deep-seated problems” on the network.

A spokeswomen for the The Secretary of State for Transport and the Rail Minister replied by saying, it has “made the Southern dispute a priority,” and called on the union and Southern’s parent company Govia Thameslink Railway to resolve the dispute.

Strikes are currently planned for:

Friday 4 November to 23:59 Saturday 5 November

Tuesday 22 November to 23:59 Wednesday 23 November

Tuesday 6 December to 23:59 Thursday 8 December
