Crawley New Town turned 70 yesterday.
On the 9th January 1947 it was announced that the area around Crawley, Three Bridges and Ifield had been chosen as the location for one of eight new towns around London. The intention was to move people and industry out of the overcrowded and bomb-damaged capital and into the countryside.
To mark the occasion, Crawley Borough Council is arranging a year of exciting events and celebrations including the re-opening of Queens Square and a music concert from across the past seven decades.
