“No memorandum of understanding” between Surrey and Government says minister

Local Government Secretary Sajid Javid says Surrey’s decision not raise Council Tax by 15% “was theirs alone” echoing that of Council Leader David Hodge.

Commenting on the accusations by Jeremy Corybn of a “sweetheart deal” between the Council and government, he says there was “no memorandum of understanding” between the two.

The County has opted for a 4.99% increase, rather than the proposed 15%, meaning it’s now below the 5% which would trigger a referendum.
