A spokeswoman for Southern’s parent company, Govia Thameslink, can’t say when or whether talks between the RMT and the train company will resume.
She confirmed they’ve been broken off so both sides can “consider their positions,” but couldn’t say when they would restart, if at all.
The ongoing dispute over driver-only-operated trains has led to 31 days of strikes over the past year so far – and has been joined by ASLEF who rejected deals in both February and April this year.
Fresh Southern strikes by the RMT are planned for the 30th May for 24-hours.
