The NHS Trust which runs East Surrey Hospital is urging the public to think twice before going to A&E this winter.  

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has issued a traffic lights guide to show which NHS service should be used in different situations. Michael Wilson, Chief Executive of SASH says that A&E is for serious or life threatening emergencies only.

The Trust’s traffic lights guide has colour coded green to show that pharmacies, GPs and NHS 111 should be used self managing minor illnesses.  Amber is used to show how minor injuries can be treated at minor injuries units at Caterham Dene Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead and Horsham Minor Injuries Unit, as well as the Urgent Treatment Centre at Crawley Hospital. The Emergency Department at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill is colour coded red to show that it is for life threatening illnesses and injuries only.
