Primary schools in West Sussex have reduced the amount of sugar in meals by over 70% in the last 5 years.
The latest menu for children now includes just 5g of sugar a day on average, in contrast to the 18.5g of sugar back in 2014.
The West Sussex Sugar Reduction Programme has been running in collaboration with Chartwells, the county council’s main primary school meals provider.
It is estimated that in total, the amount of sugar that has been removed from meals over a school year is the equivalent weight of more than five double decker buses.
