A mother of newborn triplets has praised paramedics and staff at East Surrey Hospital for saving her life and that of her babies.
Katty Ronquillo was 31 weeks pregnant and taken to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill following a medical emergency. Hospital staff opened the new neonatal unit earlier than planned to save all four lives. The unit was still some hours away from being ready to take patients; electricians were still working on parts of the rebuild. However the case was so urgent that the triplets became its first patients. 28 hospital staff worked to deliver the children. The three babies were delivered inside three minutes.
