The M23 now has an extra lane open with road users being able to use four lanes in each direction.

A 50mph speed limit will remain in place during the next few months for safety, while additional work will take place to install, test and commission the smart motorway technology. Lane or full carriageway closures will be needed overnight while this work takes place.

Highways England have confirmed they will follow government safeguarding measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 with all major construction projects being closely monitored  and the situation kept under constant review.
