An exploding e-cigarette battery caused a fire in a flat in Bewbush on Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called, but the occupant had been woken by their smoke alarm and had tackled the flames themselves.

The fire left smoke damage as well as damaging the carpet and sofa in the flat. No one was injured.
