The NHS Trust which runs East Surrey Hospital has recruited its one hundredth patient for a research development study for coronavirus patients.
The Recovery Trial compares different treatments and is led by the University of Oxford, operating from over 160 hospitals. Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has recruited over 100 patients in less than a month.
Patients being cared for with Covid-19 at East Surrey Hospital are offered the chance to take part in the Trial. Those who accept are either given the usual treatment or some additional treatments. The approved additional treatments include existing therapies such as steroids, antibiotics, HIV medication, antivirals and antimalarial agents. They have been recommended for testing by the expert panel that advise Professor Chris Whitty the Chief Medical Officer for England.
