The scheme was only installed on Friday night by Surrey Council as part of plans to support walking and cycling during the pandemic.

However, in its first two days of operation, the project has caused a storm on social media. Members of the public are unhappy with the removal of a vehicle lane, through to the look of the red and white barriers in the town centre conservation area.
