Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s leader has welcomed the announcement of the Government’s Walking and Cycling plan.
Downing Street says the plan aims to improve safety and opportunities for walkers and cyclists as well as seeking to empower and encourage local authorities.
Reigate and Banstead Leader Councillor Mark Brunt said the council will soon launch its own cycling and walking infrastructure plan as well.
Commenting on Twitter, he said: “I really welcome this bold government initiative. Reigate & Banstead will soon launch its Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan development for the borough and looks forward to lots of resident involvement – Cycling and walking plan for England.”
The Government plan is focussed on four themes: Creating better streets for cycling and people; Putting cycling and walking at the heart of decision-making; Empowering and encouraging local authorities and enabling people to cycle and protecting them when they do.
