Four places in Crawley are breaching safe air pollution levels according to Friends of the Earth, who have analysed council nitrogen dioxide readings from monitoring sites across the country.
The latest data from 2018 shows Brighton Road near Gatwick, around Hazelwick Roundabout and two locations close to Three Bridges Station have readings on average exceeding the government and World Health organisations’ target of 40 micrograms per cubic metre of air.
The leading cause of NO2 pollution is emissions from road traffic.
Although the most recent data shows a marginal improvement from previous years (last year’s audit found 1,591 English locations breaching limits) there is still a number of locations exceeding the Air Quality Objective.
