114 new officers have joined Sussex Police since September.
Crawley MP Henry Smith welcomed the news, which comes following a Government pledge to boost police numbers after around 20,000 officers were lost nationwide between 2010 and 2018.
Mr Smith said he was delighted by the increase, as he highlighted that numbers in Crawley have remained stable in recent years.
He said:
“Getting more police officers onto our streets is one of the people’s priorities, and so I’m delighted that Sussex has been bolstered with an extra 114 officers so far. Over recent years Crawley officer numbers have remained stable, so these additional police men and women will be a further boost for our town’s safety.
“Every one of these officers will make an enormous difference in helping to cut crime and keep people safe – and I’m reassured that many more will follow as this Government continues to deliver on its promise to recruit 20,000 more over the next three years.
“By backing our police with the funding, powers and resources they need, we will keep the public and our communities safe, so that people everywhere can live their lives free from the fear of crime.”
