Crawley man remanded in custody following charge of attempted murder

A man charged with the attempted murder of a policeman in Crawley has been further remanded in custody.

Officers were called to West Green Drive at around 9.35am on Thursday, following concerns for a man in possession of a knife. When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly attempted to stab an officer before he was safely detained.

37-year-old Jack Chao of West Green Drive was charged with attempted murder and has been remanded to appear in court in January.

Chief Inspector Shane Baker, district commander for Crawley and Mid Sussex, said: “Our police officers demonstrate great courage by putting themselves in harm’s way to protect the public each and every day.
“Thankfully the officer in this case is recovering well and has received plenty of messages of support from his colleagues.”
