Two brothers have been jailed over the killing of a Crawley man when he was hit by a car in Brighton.

Loxwood FC player, Suel Delgado died and two other were injured when Iftekhar Khondaker drove into them in December 2019 on Marine Parade.

Mr Delgado had been on a night out with his friends when a fight broke out with the Khondaker brothers and their friend.

The brothers, both of Caithness Road, Mitcham, South London, then got into the BMW 6 which belonged to their father. The car hit Mr Delgado and two of his friends, leaving them “strewn across the road”, Hove Crown Court was told.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The Khondaker brothers made no attempt to stop or help [their] victims as they lay in the street, while stunned witnesses to the attack watched in horror.

“They drove to Middle Street in the town centre, where they dumped their badly damaged vehicle before calling a taxi and returning to their home.”

Iftekhar Khondaker was on licence after being released in July 2019 following a nine-year prison sentence for GBH, when he drove his father’s car at someone and broke the victim’s ankle.

Judge Christine Laing said: “Iftekhar Khondaker is a man utterly unable to control a clearly very violent temper.

“It frankly beggars belief he’d been released on licence just four months earlier.

“It seems there is a deep flaw in his psychological make up.”

The 34 year-old was given a life sentence while his younger sibling Irfan who was also in the car was given three years behind bars.

Mr Delgado’s mother, Graciete Sanches, told the courth that when she looked at her son she “was so proud” adding, “I feel empty. I still can’t believe I buried my son. Suel had so much to live for.”
