A group of GPs is looking for innovative ways to make the Covid-19 vaccine available to residents in Crawley and East Surrey.
The Alliance for Better Care (ABC) has administered more than 100,000 doses of the vaccine across Crawley, East Surrey and Mid Sussex, using seven fixed sites and a team of mobile vaccination units.
The organisation launched a second mobile team last week as its members say they are seeking new ways to serve their communities.
To mark the 100,000th vaccine administered by the team, the group has established the ‘ABC Unicef Vaccine Fund’ to support families affected by the virus. They are asking visitors to the vaccination sites to donate the cost of the vaccine to the cause.
Dr Katie Spensley is Clinical Lead at ABC’s Clair Hall vaccination centre in Haywards Heath, she has been one of the driving forces behind the fund. She said:
“We have all been affected in some way by the impact that Covid has had on us as individuals, families, employers, and a nation. For those of us that live in a country with a robust health system, it can be easy to take this for granted.
“Thanks to NHS provision we are all in a position to receive our vaccinations for Covid in a secure, clean environment and in a robust system with effective technology, structured processes and adequate vaccine supplies. We chose to partner with Unicef to show our gratitude, and support their aim of ensuring that all countries participating have fair access to 2 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of 2021.”
