A petition has been launched to stop the trial of a booking system at Crawley tip.
The scheme which is about to start and run for six months will see residents required to reserve a slot before they visit.
It will also be used at waste recycling sites in Bognar Regis, Horsham, Littlehampton, Shoreham and Worthing.
Labour campaigners say they are worried it will lead to an increase in flytipping and a reduction in recycling.
But the council says it is needed to maintain social distancing during the spring surge in demand and see no reason why it will increase flytipping or reduce recycling.
