A person has died in a house fire which took place in Banstead on Friday. 

Firefighters were called to the fire in Holly Lane West in the early hours of Friday morning.  Six fire engines, including an aerial ladder platform, attended the scene.  The roof and much of the first floor of the property have been destroyed. 

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and Surrey Police have issued a joint statement, sending their condolences to the family of the resident who died. 

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
