Union flags have been half-masted at all Royal residences flying the Union flag. The Royal Standard will continue to fly at Windsor Castle where The Queen is in residence.
Buckingham Palace has announced that the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh will take place on Saturday 17 April, and will be televised with national silence at 3pm.
West Sussex Residents who do not have online access can send a message of condolence to the Chairman’s Office, Room 102, West Sussex County Council, County Hall, Chichester PO19 1RQ.
Surrey Residents can read a letter of condolence to the Royal Family from Tony Samuels, the Chairman of Surrey County Council here
The Mayor of the Borough of Reigate & Banstead, Cllr Rosemary Absalom paid tribute.
“I and my council colleagues are extremely saddened by the news of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh’s passing. He will be remembered for his tireless service to our nation.
“Beginning with the navy and then, over 60 years, as the longest serving British consort, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip’s service has been both inspirational and exemplary and his loss will be keenly felt by us all.
“This is a particularly sad time and our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen, the Royal Family and all those who grieve His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh’s passing.
“I will be sending a letter of condolence to Her Majesty The Queen on behalf of all those who live and work in the Borough of Reigate & Banstead and, as a mark of respect, the Union Flag at the Town Hall is being flown at half-mast until the day after the funeral.”
Due to government Covid-19 restrictions, sadly physical books of condolence are not able to be hosted at the Town Hall. However, if you are a resident unable to access the online national book of condolence, you can send your written tributes for inclusion in a loose-leaf book, addressed to ‘Book of Condolence’, Town Hall, Castlefield Road, Reigate RH2 0SH. There is also a dedicated post box at the Town Hall for people wishing to deliver by hand.
The Royal Family is inviting people to make a donation to a charity of their choice, or to donate to one of The Duke of Edinburgh’s charities in memory of His Royal Highness.
