An eighteen-year-old man’s been detained after reports of shots being fired near Crawley College yesterday.
Sussex Police said it received the reports just after 3pm and rushed to the area. Surrounding roads were closed off and two helicopters were seen patrolling the skies.
Officers urged people to stay away from the vicinity stating there’ll be a large police presence for the time being. In a tweet from Sussex Police, they said two people have suffered minor injuries, that aren’t believed to be serious and were not gunshot related. A firearm and a knife were seized.
Images on social media show police cars blocking the streets around the college, and scores of armed officers outside the building.
Brandon Pryor is one of the students at the college:
A statement on the college’s website said: “Our priority remains the safety of students and staff.”
The MP for Crawley Henry Smith said: “I pay tribute to Sussex Police and Crawley College staff for their professionalism, calm and care in responding to the town centre firearms incident this afternoon.”
