A bumper set of local council elections took place on Thursday after polls in 2020 were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The votes have been counted over the weekend.
The Conservatives remain in control of Surrey County Council with 47 of the total 81 seats but they’ve lost seats with gains for Labour, Liberal Democrats, Greens and Independents and Resident Association candidates.
The Conservatives have also retained control of West Sussex County Council.
East Sussex County Council has elected its first ever Green Party councillors; the Green Party has taken three wards.
In the borough and district council elections, Tandridge District Council saw the Independents, and Oxted and Limpsfield Residents Group combined, win 16 seats, gaining 3 from the last elections. The Conservatives gained 2 with a total of 14 seats.
The Conservatives have maintained their majority at Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, occupying 11 of the 18 seats up for election.
Crawley Borough Council has stayed in No Overall Control, with the Conservatives winning 18 seats, Labour with 17 and one Independent.
Conservative Lisa Townsend has been elected as Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey, unseating the independent David Munro. The Conservative candidate beat Liberal Democrat Paul Kennedy in a second round run-off.
