A special memorial day took place at East Grinstead Rugby Club on Saturday to remember the life of Sergeant Matt Ratana.
Matt died in the line of duty at Croydon Custody Centre a year ago.
He was Head Coach at East Grinstead Rugby Club where he was remembered with a celebration of rugby matches, music and Maori culture. The Day began with a special Māori welcome, reflecting his New Zealand heritage.
A minute’s silence was also held by his Met police colleagues at 11 o’clock.
Classical Soprano singer, Joanna Forest, performed a special version of ‘World in Union’ released to commemorate Matt’s life and to support the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year, ‘Unsung Hero’ award nomination last year.
Another memorial for Matt Ratana is being held in London on 29th November.
