Crawley is considering applying to become a city, to mark its 75th anniversary.
The Borough Council is discussing whether to enter the Civic Honours competition which is part of the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations.
A report to councillors says the bid would rebuild town pride and raise Crawley’s profile after the effects of the pandemic.
If the council approves, a public consultation will open in a week and run for a Month.
The deadline is December 8th and winners will be announced early next year.
