Barclays Bank permanently closed its Horley branch on Victoria Road on Friday. Horley no longer has a high street bank in the town. Barclays’ report on the closure of the Horley branch, cites a decline in counter transactions with 87% of their branch customers using other ways to do their banking such as online and by telephone. The next nearest branches are in Redhill and Crawley High Street.
Meanwhile, the Lloyds Banking Group which owns Lloyds and Halifax is to shut 48 branches next year; 41 Lloyds and 7 Halifax. Three of the Lloyds branches are in Surrey; Oxted, Dorking and Leatherhead.
Oxted’s branch in Station Road West which will close on the 7th March next year. With similar reasons to Barclays Horley closure, the Lloyds Bank Closing Branch Review document says it is closing the Oxted site as customers are using it less often with the majority of customers finding alternative ways to bank. The nearest alternative for Oxted residents is in Caterham.
