West Sussex County Council is backing Crawley’s bid to receive city status.
The city bid is part of the national Civic Honours Competition to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The rare awards will grant winning towns with ‘city status’ for the first time in 10 years.
The timing of the bid coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Crawley as a New Town. The closing date for bids to be submitted to the Competition is this Wednesday. The government will announce the winners of the competition early next year.
