The MP for Crawley, Henry Smith says things are looking up for Gatwick as its south terminal reopens ready for the summer.
It comes as all remaining travel restrictions for entering the UK have also been scrapped.
Speaking to Susy Radio, Mr Smith, said he had spoken to Gatwick’s boss Stewart Wingate who estimates this summer’s traffic levels will be around 90% of what they were in 2019. He also added Mr Wingate estimates job vacancies at and related to the airport stand at about 5,000.
Nick Williams, head of retail operations, recently told the BBC, “It’s effectively been like opening a new shopping centre from scratch.”
