Surrey Wildlife Trust is urging residents to do all they can to manage water wisely as dry conditions threaten wildlife and habitats.
It says people with gardens can take simple steps to help retain moisture during dry spells to reduce pressure on water supplies and create green gardens which are good for wildlife.
In the short term, the Trust suggests using waste water from the bath or sink to water plants.
Among its recommendations for the longer term, is to reduce paved areas in gardens to allow water to infiltrate into the ground rather than run off.
