Bank Holiday Monday information – Council Services

The following information has been made available:

Bank holiday

The Town Hall and The Harlequin Theatre and Cinema will be closed on the day of the funeral.

Bank holiday bin collections

Following the announcement that Monday 19 September will be a bank holiday due to the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, all household bin collections (including garden waste collections) will be one day later than usual next week. Therefore:

  • if your usual collection is Monday your bins will be collected Tuesday 20 September
  • if your usual collection is Tuesday your bins will be collected Wednesday 21 September
  • if your usual collection is Wednesday your bins will be collected Thursday 22 September
  • if your usual collection is Thursday your bins will be collected Friday 23 September
  • if your usual collection is Friday your bins will be collected on Saturday 24 September
  • Normal collections will resume from Monday 26 September.

    Surrey County Council’s Community Recycling Centres will be closed on the bank holiday. See a full list of changes to Surrey County Council services.

    The Harlequin Theatre and Cinema programme will also be subject to change or cancellation and those affected will be contacted directly by The Harlequin team.

    Crawley Borough Council

    Council services

    In view of Monday 19 September being declared a national bank holiday for the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, many Crawley Borough Council buildings and services will close or operate differently as a mark of respect.
    For council buildings, the main changes are as follows:

  • The Town Hall will be closed all day. Any pre-booked appointments will be rearranged
  • K2 Crawley, Bewbush Centre Gym and the Broadfield 3G pitch will be closed all day
  • Tilgate Nature Centre will be closed all day
  • The Hawth will be closed to the general public all day
  • Community centres will be closed
  • The Employ Crawley hub will be closed that day and weekly appointments will be rearranged
  • Cemeteries will be open for visitors
  • The public toilets in the cemeteries and parks will be open on Monday. Other public toilets will be closed (as per usual on a bank holiday)
  • All car parks will be open.
  • There will be no rubbish, recycling and garden waste collection services on Monday 19 September. Collections will run one day late during this week, with Friday’s bins being collected on Saturday 24 September. All collections return to normal on Monday 26 September. Anyone with a bulky waste collection already booked for next week should expect it to happen a day later.
