Crawley is one of two areas in Sussex which has been selected for a targeted NHS lung screening programme. People aged 55-74 who have smoked in their lifetime and who are registered with a GP, will receive an invitation a letter for a telephone appointment.
Depending on the outcome, an individual may be referred for a lung CT scan to check for early signs of lung cancer. Scans will take place on mobile vans in community locations as this promotional audio explains:
Crawley has been selected along with Brighton and Hove, as they have the highest number of lung cancer deaths in the region as well as the highest smoking rates.
