Bird flu has been confirmed at a premises near Horley. All birds at the property have to be humanely culled.
Following a risk assessment, a three-kilometre Captive Bird (Monitoring) Controlled Zone has been put in place by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). These temporary controls mean that captive birds in the zone must now be housed. All bird keepers should remain vigilant and follow stringent measures to prevent further outbreaks. These include keeping a record of all poultry and eggs entering or leaving any premises in the zone, and the disinfection of all vehicles that may be contaminated.
The three-kilometre zone around the Horley site extends to the Gatwick area. The map of the zone is shown below:
The measures remain in place until the Declaration is withdrawn or amended by further declaration.
