The Conservatives lost seats across East Surrey and North Sussex in Thursday’s local elections, with the Liberal Democrats making the most gains locally.
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is the only Surrey Council where the Conservatives have a majority. The Tories have retained control of Reigate and Banstead despite losing three seats; two to the Green Party and one to Labour who now have a seat on the Council. The Conservatives now have 23 seats at Reigate and Banstead, the minimum number needed to have a majority on the Council.
There has been no change at Tandridge District Council which remains hung, and continues to be run by a coalition of the Oxted and Limpsfield Residents’ Group Alliance and independent councillors.
Labour have held Crawley Borough Council, gaining a seat from the Conservatives to increase their majority.
The Liberal Democrats have retained control of Mole Valley District Council with an increased majority. They now have 30 seats, gaining 7 from the Conservatives.
The Liberal Democrats have gained control of Horsham District Council from the Conservatives who lost 21 seats there.
