The Merstham Mix Cafe announced its closure on Friday with immediate effect.
The Community Interest Company worked with food surplus partners to reduce food waste and create affordable, high quality meals for the cafe. The cafe was run by a team of paid staff and volunteers.
In a statement on social media, The Board of the Merstham Mix Cafe cited financial reasons for having to close; in particular recent pressures of the minimum wage and food inflation.
The cafe needed between £20,000 and £40,000 a year to cover rent and salaries.
The Board thanked its customers and supporters but said it had no choice but to accept the business could no longer trade at a loss.
