The Executive of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council will meet on Thursday to discuss the future of The Harlequin Theatre and Cinema in Redhill.
The theatre closed last September after the discovery of RAAC concrete in the building. The Council says although it hoped the closure would be temporary, it now doesn’t expect to reopen in the foreseeable future due to the extent of RAAC found in the building so far.
The recommendation is to stop the current Harlequin arts and cultural activities to rationalise operating costs while the centre is closed; instead the focus would be on developing a business case for a medium-term cultural offer.
If the recommendation is adopted some staff will be impacted and may be put at risk of redundancy.
