A suggestion has been put forward for empty council buildings in Redhill could be taken over by charities and pop-up shops on a short-term basis.
Short-term “meanwhile leases” could be used to alleviate the nearly £620,000 spent annually by Reigate and Banstead borough council on vacant units in the borough.
It’s reported that 75% of this figure is spent maintaining the empty properties in Redhill, as well as business rates, insurance and utility bills.
The Council executive will consider using temporary leases and its potential economic benefits at a future date.
