The NHS Trust which runs East Surrey Hospital has stepped down its Critical Incident status which was put in place last Thursday.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust credits the hard work by teams at the Trust and across the system which enabled them to step down from Critical Incident to Business Continuity 48 hours later.  The situation arose following high levels of demand and impact from winter viruses.

Additional infection control measures have been introduced at East Surrey including good hand-hygiene, and wearing masks in clinical areas.

A spokesman said that services remain very busy and residents are asked to consider using 111, pharmacies, GPs, and minor injury units where appropriate, and to only attend the Emergency Department if seriously ill or if your condition is life threatening.
