Highways Officers from Surrey County Council are continuing the investigation into the cause of the Godstone road sinkholes or ‘collapse’ as it is now known.
Last week, foam concrete was pumped into the main hole in the collapsed road. This is considered the best material to use to stabilise the hole to prevent it from getting any bigger. It can then be used as a platform to carry out the works and further testing. Lloyd Allen is Surrey County Council’s Infrastructure Team Manager:
Mr Allen hopes that residents will be able to return to their homes sooner than originally forecast but said those decisions are yet to be made. Thirty households had to evacuate their homes in the early hours of 18th February, and of those, only six households have been allowed to return home.
