Surrey Courier Fraud Targeted in New Campaign

A campaign has been launched to help protect people targeted by courier fraud.

“Think twice and don’t give out your personal details to someone you don’t know” is the message aimed at vulnerable and elderly people.

The campaign hopes to raise awareness of courier fraud and advise of preventative measures which can be put into place.

During one incident in Dorking, the fraudster stayed on the end of the telephone line after instructing his victim, a man in his 80s, to phone his bank.

The fraudster then pretended to be a bank clerk, obtained the man’s pin number, and directed him to put his cards in an envelope ready for collection by a courier.

The campaign being run by Surrey Police continues until December 20th.
