Surrey Fire and Rescue Service has signed an agreement with Surrey Search and Rescue to work together in the event of flooding. They will also join forces during other water rescues.
Surrey Search and Rescue is a team of highly-trained volunteers who already support emergency services at incidents when called to do so. Now both services have signed a memorandum of understanding which formally sets out how they will work and train together.
The fire service is equipped and trained to carry out water rescues, and Surrey Search and Rescue’s crews will operate under their guidance.
