Hidden away in a large storage unit in Crawley an unusual World Record attempt took place this weekend, as Sussex resident Neil Scallan set out to beat the record for the most Monopoly board games in a collection.
The existing record, which was set in America, stood at 500 sets but after a day of checking, cataloging and photographing hundreds of sealed Monopoly sets on Sunday evening the record was passed and Neil Munday from Susy Radio was on hand to capture the moment.
The Monopoly games are all different themed versions of the well loved board game including sets based on Pokemon, Futurama, Coronation Street, Only Fools and Horses, and even an East Grinstead version.
At the end of Sunday evening the total of games verified in the SafeStore UK storage unit had officially passed 600 games but Neil and his volunteers were determined to carry on counting and cataloging the rest of the Monopoly sets that were still packed away in unopened brown boxes. Neil Scallon said it was a “mission” to take the record as close to the 2000 mark and by Monday night the total had climbed past the 1800 mark.
