Surrey and Sussex Police are encouraging motorists to make a pledge to reduce the number of deaths on Europe’s roads.
It is in support of a European-wide campaign taking place today.
Project Edward (European Day Without A Road Death) aims to see zero road fatalities across the continent.
Officers in the counties are providing a high visibility presence and are targeting traffic offenders, including drink or drug-driving, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, and using a mobile device at the wheel.
They are also reminding motorists to check mirrors and blind spots, look at junctions, take weather conditions into account, keep enough distance from other vehicles, obey road signs and check their vehicles making sure they are road-worthy.
Last year there were 30 fatalities in Surrey.
