A coroner has said a woman from Crawley died because of delays in finding an intensive care bed.
57 year-old Mary Muldowney was admitted to East Surrey Hospital with a suspected brain bleed. After scans showed the severity of it, doctors requested an immediate transfer to a neurosurgical unit. Two hospitals in London and one in Brighton refused the request, while others said they had no space.
Mrs Muldowney was later taken to the Royal London Hospital where she went straight into surgery but could not be saved.
NHS Chief, Sir Bruce Keogh says a serious safety issue has been raised and a meeting would be held between clinicians at the hospitals.
