Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, the Trust which runs East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, has said it is currently experiencing a high number of attendance to its emergency department.
This comes after reports in the national media that the NHS may need to cancel appointments in order to cope with emergency pressure. Michael Wilson, Chief Executive at the Trust said they are continuing to schedule those patients that are clinically urgent, but they are reviewing this daily. He said that if the pressure continues, it is possible that planned elective work may have to be reduced. He added that unless the hospital contacts them, patients with planned operations and appointments should attend as normal.
Meanwhile the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead has assured anyone due to attend the hospital, to continue as planned unless they hear from the hospital.
